| California Property Taxes: | |
The State of California has "Proposition 13, which was passed back in the late 70's and caps the amount of tax that could be collected from homeowners to 1% of the full cash value on property they owned. So, it may be needless to say, but Property Taxes in California are kinda crazy!!!
There are exemptions for senior citizens (over 62). Also, California did allow postponement of Property Taxes, with interest collected in such cases -- BUT the Governator suspended the program on February 20th, 2009. | California State Sales Tax: | 8.25% |
Many of California’s cities, counties, towns, and communities have special taxing jurisdictions (districts), which impose transactions (sales) and use tax. These districts increase the tax rate in a particular area by adding the district tax to the combined statewide rate of 8.25%. The rates for these districts range from 0.10% to 1.00% per district. Also, more than one district tax may be in effect in a given location. Click Here For Detailed Sales Tax and Use Rates For California Cities and Counties
| California Tire Tax: | $1.75 Per Tire |
(They call this tax a “Fee” in California.)
The State of California collects this "fee" from people who buy new tires from retail tire stores in California.
Revenues from these fees are used to administer tire disposal programs, as well as provide and promote alternative programs to the landfill disposal of used tires, such as recycling and re-use.
